Andrade brothers; swimming together

What more can you ask for from an athlete who is excelling academically, spiritually and athletically? Two of them would be nice; and that is what the California Baptist University Swim Team has in the Andrade Brothers.

Vicente and Jorge were raised in Mexico and were brought to California through their passion to attend a Christian University that offered Christ-centered academics and athletics.

"Coming in as a freshman it was hard but our sophomore and Junior year we really bonded with the team," said Vicente.

The Andrade brothers are Juniors at CBU and have been swimming for three years. Vicente is majoring in Kinesiology and plans on becoming a PE teacher as well as a swim coach after graduating. Jorge also has high goals for himself. He is a Spanish Psychology Major planning on becoming a Spanish teacher and he eventually wants to get his masters in Psychology.

"I plan on going back to Mexico and going to the Olympic trials," Vicente said. Along with his plans to become a teacher and coach he also wants to carry on his talent as a swimmer to the Olympic level and contribute his talents in representing his country.

"He is very close to making the Olympics," CBU head Swim Coach Rick Rowland said.

The Andrade brothers bring a lot to their teammates in the pool as well as out of the pool. They are both always willing to lead team prayers and encourage the
team spiritually.

"They are two of the happiest, friendliest guys you will ever meet, very positive and they really care about every one of their teammates," Rowland said.

Rowland says he has gotten various compliments from their teachers, saying that they always have a smile in class and they enjoy them as students as well as individuals.

They both have scored big points for their team and are excelling. Vicente like his coach said his very fast and is close to meeting the times for the National team in Mexico.

The Andrade brothers both were accepted to the International Student Athletes Association and spent the summer at the Swim Hall of Fame in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

They love openly serving God and sharing their faith. Both attended ISP trips with one going to Russia while the other served in France.

"I love singing at my church and hanging out with friends," Jorge said when asked what they enjoyed doing outside of swimming.

The Andrade brothers would not be on the team if it weren't for the brotherly bond. They both made it clear that they loved being on the swim team together.

Vicente and Jorge are genuinely nice guys and always have a smile on their faces. There are various reasons why their teachers, teammates, and coach love their company and positive attitude. Vicente and Jorge are not only good students and great athletes, they are excellent stewards of the Lord.
