I was on a mission to find out who has the best fish tacos. My adventure of hunger and knowledge led me to the beach cities in So Cal. Here, we can find two restaurants that are leading the game with the best fish tacos: Pedro's Tacos and Wahoo's Fish Tacos.
Pedro's tacos is found in San Clemente. This "beachy" food joint is dubbed a local favorite. People travel great lengths to eat here, myself included. The walk-up style restaurant is casual and small, and located on El Camino Real, which is the direct route to the San Clemente Pier.
Being a Mexican restaurant, Pedro's Tacos menu offers basic, traditional Mexican food. From burritos to quesadilla's, their menu has it all, and at an inexpensive cost. Also, for the early surfers, Pedro's has one of the most filling breakfast burritos out there. It is the perfect meal after a morning session of wave riding.
With every trip to Pedro's, my food selection rarely differs. I generally get the City Famous Fish tacos. These tacos are known for having more fish than tortilla. Filled with cabbage and a special sauce, these tacos are not only a mouthful but a delicious mouthful. A combination of three of these tacos with a nice, cold soda can complete your day.
The Wahoo's Fish Taco restaurants can be found all over California, with 35 locations in southern California alone. Wahoo's, known for their famous business marketing plan and for being a family owned business, knows how to combine a sit- down restaurant service at a fast food pace.
Each Wahoo's one has been decorated with stickers from popular clothing brands, local stores and bands. With extreme sport videos on continuous play on the televisions and popular music, Wahoo's is a place to enjoy food, have great service and hang-out with friends.
The food at Wahoo's is very unique. The food is a mixture of Asian, Mexican and a little bit of So. Cal flavor. The founding brothers got their idea from their surfing background in Mexico and the idea of fish tacos. Their menu consists of burritos, tacos, bowls and traditional Mexican plates.
Wahoo's Fish Tacos is by far one of my personal favorite places to eat. I go at least once a week. At each trip I get their Spicy Fish Taco. Their tacos are not the typical deep fried fish. This fish taco is simple; containing a corn tortilla, cajun fish, cabbage and fresh salsa. Order the combo plate which includes spicy white beans and their famous white rice; this is an appealing meal for under $10.
Of all the fish and the tortillas I have eaten, there is a winner among the kings of the fish taco game. I truly do love the fish tacos from Pedro's; these tacos are worth the drive. They are full of flavor and obviously delicious. On the other hand, due to location the fish tacos from Wahoo's are closer, which makes my hunger happier. But when I have a free day and want to go to the coast, Pedro's Tacos is definitely the place to go.
