HOW TO STAY AFLOAT DURING MIDTERMS WEEK

They say that time flies when you're having fun. Well, with much of that time spent enjoying the events this year has brought, it may be a surprise for some that midterms are just around the corner.

Midterms are that point in every semester when students' knowledge of different subjects will be put to the test. Here are a few pointers for both parties to survive midterm week.

1. Sleep- It is no question that pulling all-nighters comes with the package of being a college student, especially for those professional procrastinators. However, it is important to keep in mind that sleep is essential if you want to retain the information you have put so much effort in to studying for. An eight-hour lapse of shut-eye should do your body enough justice to keep you going for the day.

2. Eat- When you are preoccupied or stressed, it is easy to skip meals and continue on with daily activities. Not fueling your body with the appropriate nutrition it needs to stay focused will hurt you in the long run. Giving your body food is like filling a car with gas; without gas the car will eventually stop moving.

3. Self-Control- It is important to exercise self-control during this time. Facebook, video games or hanging out with friends is not an option to replace study time. In order to avoid these temptations, study in a place where it is not possible to access any distractions.

4. Study Zone- The place where you study plays a lot in how much of the information you are actually retaining. Find an area that is quiet. If surfing the Internet may raise an issue, then study in an Internet-free area.

5. Positive Attitude- As much as midterms may play a significant role in determining your final grade, it is not the end of the world. Stay optimistic about your classes and do the best you can on the test. Remember, there is always homework and the final to help boost your grade!

6. Break Time- As positive as you are, there is no saying that being stressed will be fully avoided. Learn to alleviate the stress in a constructive manner. This can be done by exercising, watching TV or doing your favorite activity. It is okay to take a break, but make sure to not linger too long.

As midterms approach, remain calm and be smart with the choices you make when preparing for each test. Take care of your body, do not just go through the motions of attending and paying attention in class. Do your best, and knock 'em dead!
