The sky is the limit

Several weeks ago, the United States Supreme Court ruled in favor of overturning a rule blocking campaign finances by corporations. With such a ruling it gives the go ahead for major unions and large corporations to fund campaigns with their general treasury.

This additional funding will intensify the races even more than the past election of President Barrack Obama.

Many believe that this overturn will cause what campaign reform advocates warn will be a flood of corporate spending in future elections. The ruling is expected to permit similar political expenditures from the general treasuries of labor unions, as well.

Obama called the ruling a "major victory for big oil, Wall Street banks, health insurance companies and other powerful interests that marshal their power every day in Washington to drown out the voices of everyday Americans." While Obama does indeed say that it will drown out the voices of everyday Americans, Obama himself used funds from major corporations during the 2008 election to back his political campaign.

On one hand, the most powerful interest groups are being run by the people and thus represent the views of the people.

This ruling will affect both ends of the spectrum of our political system. But think about it, the "people" work within our economy and also run the businesses within the economy.

So when Obama and the Democratic Party are stating that it will ruin the election process, do they mean their specific party running for political office or are they referring to the larger corporations, who are indeed run by the people?
